Infrared
The remote sensing specialists at AEROmetrex are experienced in classifying various phenomena from infrared data,
be it satellite, digital camera, or digitised aerial film. Various applications include identifying different land uses,
classes of water quality, mapping vegetation varieties, soil conditions, health and vigour levels in crops and forests.
The infrared data captured is sensitive to the near infra-red part of the electromagnetic spectrum.
This infrared region is invisible to the human eye, but can be viewed when the data is processed by computers.
Infrared is used to detect chlorophyll from healthy plants and fruit; conversely,
diseased or stressed plants will be discriminated by significantly lower chlorophyll detection in the infrared.
The stress can be water, soil, or nutrient related. Infrared also is a very good discriminator between dry and wet soil.
An NDVI product can be created to further highlight vegetation stress.
