2012 Premium Adelaide Metro orthophoto dataset acquired
AEROmetrex is pleased to announce that the 2012 Adelaide Metro orthophoto dataset has been acquired and is currently being processed in our Adelaide facilities.
The award-wining Adelaide Metro orthophoto program has been running since 2002 and provides premium seamless orthomosaic and high precision digital terrain model of Adelaide and surrounding areas covering 2200 km2. These datasets have been used by the majority of local government authorities and state government agencies over the last 10 years and serve as foundation layers for many projects requiring consistent and accurate information.
What makes Adelaide Metro a premium geospatial dataset?
Our orthomosaic and digital terrain models are based on more than 300 fully surveyed controlled points and the previous digital terrain model (DTM) is being systematically checked for any updates and changes to ensure accuracy. We have firm accuracy specifications which have been proven by extensive testing over 10 years.
Specific attention is paid to all bridges and underpasses. The DTM is modelled top and bottom to ensure orthophoto accuracy.
Many hours are spent to ensure a perfectly seamless mosaic is provided which is not over dodged, not patchy and with perfect radiometric calibration.
Special attention is given to the way the data is captured to completely eliminate atmosphere variability and limit shadows.
Additional runs are flown over specific areas such as mangroves and coastline for maximum water penetration and ensure minimum glare as well as additional escarpment runs to give uniform pixel size
The full dataset acquired from large-format digital aerial camera consists on a seamless 10cm RGB and Near-Infrared orthomosaic as well as high precision digital terrain model.
The Adelaide Metro coverage at 10cm resolution has 25 times more resolution than the best available commercial satellite imagery. |
Why is accuracy and quality important?
Our Adelaide Metro geospatial dataset has a high qualitative and quantitative value. It is guaranteed free of scale errors at the terrain surface level and can be used to take accurate measurements.
A high-quality, accurate orthophoto is a fundamental base layer for GIS. Vector layers can be registered and interpreted much more effectively with an accurate image base. Our Adelaide Metro orthophoto is a primary independent check on accuracy of other GIS vector datasets including cadastral data, utility services both above and below ground, road centrelines, watercourses, etc. From an engineering and survey point of view, accuracy of the orthophoto image is a prime consideration.
Accurate DTMs also provide invaluable qualitative information and are used as foundation layer for flood model and construction projects.
